The Interventional Safety Nurse develops, coordinates, and sustains safety, quality, and equity initiatives across the Surgical Services service lines (e.g., Operating Rooms, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Prep & Recovery, GI). The Interventional Safety Nurse partners with interdisciplinary teams to promote a high-reliability culture and reduce preventable harm within the Surgical Services service line across the IDN.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Interventional Safety Nurse as a dedicated clinical expert, educator, and quality advisor overseeing the advancement of Interventional safety at Health First (HF) Integrated Delivery Network (IDN). The Interventional Safety Nurse develops, coordinates, and sustains safety, quality, and equity initiatives across the Surgical Services service lines (e.g., Operating Rooms, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Prep & Recovery, GI). The Interventional Safety Nurse partners with interdisciplinary teams to promote a high-reliability culture and reduce preventable harm within the Surgical Services service line across the IDN.
Primary Accountabilities
- Serves as an on-unit safety coach, observing practices, facilitating real-time training, and modeling high-reliability behaviors and best practices.
- Conducts surveillance of perioperative safety metrics and near-miss events; leading multidisciplinary reviews to identify trends and recommend improvement opportunities, while directing and support quality improvement (QI) initiatives.
- Supports education team in training the surgical teams readiness and high-reliability teams behaviors with simulation training and team communication programs (e.g. fire safety, wrong-site prevention).
- Collaborates with education and leadership to disseminate evidence-based workflows to reinforce adherence to safety initiatives (e.g., surgical time-out(s), sterilization protocols, specimen management).
- Monitors adherence to best practices on compliance and core surgical protocols including Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and infection prevention standards.
- Partners with nursing leadership and medical staff to support and enhance accurate, timely documentation and Associate learning following safety events.
- Eases in classifying any disparities regarding surgical outcomes, supporting all deliverables for equitable care through system-level protocols to promote and cultivate consistent practices.
- Participates in surgical safety huddles, patient rounds, and clinical forums to elevate safety concerns and promote transparency.
- Acts as a supportive resource during and after adverse events, fostering a just culture and promoting Associate well-being.
- Collaborates with hospital leadership teams on developing and implementing aligned surgical safety strategies consistently across the division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Any one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) OR
- Enrolled in BSN program within six (6) months of start date OR
- Completing BSN program within six (6) months of start date.
- Work Experience: Five (5) years of clinical experience in a surgical environment.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
- Certification:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to act as a role model for professionalism.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in clinical data interpretation, QI methodologies, and evidence-based practice.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and engage frontline teams effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, foster collaboration, and promote psychological safety.
- Self-direction, creativity, initiative, Leadership skills, initiative, organization, and self-direction.
- Strong clinical background with the ability to map clinical processes, gather and analyze data, effectively present ideas, and views to clinical audiences.
- Ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and issues to facilitate appropriate customer support, and to work on complex projects independently.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory bodies.
- Ability to navigate the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Education:
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN).
- Certification:
- Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN).
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS).
- Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
- May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
- May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
- May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined.
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
